Nilsa Gonzalez

Nilsa Judith Gonzalez has a long and distinguished career in education and has worked for over 20 years with the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). She has been recognized for a number of achievements and received several awards including the Leadership Award in Education from National Image Inc., the Angie Pabón Community Activist Award (GALAEI Project), the Marcus A. Foster Award for Outstanding Administrative Leadership, the Rose Lindenbaum Principals Award and the Aspira, Inc. Educators Award.
Ms. Gonzalez is also involved in a number of community organizations including her current appointment as a Board Member for the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS). She is also currently a Chairperson for the Delaware Valley Community Health Services.
Ms. Gonzalez is currently retired and working as a consultant. She was previously a School Management Officer for the SDP where she provided leadership and support in implementing policies and procedures of the Philadelphia Public Schools. She worked to provide a conduit through which the services of the central office units were delivered and acted as a clearly defined line of authority through which mandated directives, from the School Reform Commission and the Chief Academic Officer, were communicated to schools. She also directed all federally funded Title I Program activities and assisted in the direction of the functioning of administrative, supervisory, and technical support to staff engaged in activities pertinent to ESEA Title I Program planning.
Ms. Gonzalez was also the Central East Area Academic Officer for the SDP, where she was responsible for all aspects of professional development, instruction, assessment and monitoring of all Central East Area schools grades. She worked as an Associate Superintendent for the Office of Leadership & Learning for the SDP. In this position, she was responsible for all aspects of professional and leadership development of teachers and administrators. She interacted daily with state and municipal educational agencies as well as with universities, unions and local government to provide teachers and administrators with the expertise and support they needed to consistently enhance teaching and learning in the classroom setting. She was also the Kensington Cluster Leader for the SDP and she promoted, supported, and sustained the Children Achieving Agenda at the 15 schools of the Kensington Cluster.
Ms. Gonzalez received her BA in Education from Temple University and she received her MA in Educational Administration from California State University. She also holds a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Beaver College (now Arcadia University).
